Project Made: Help a Friend with Sewing
Updated: Apr 18, 2023
"The greatest gift you can give someone is your time. Because it's like giving a portion of your life that you will never get back."
One of my biggest things is "Yes I sew, and no I wont do your mending!" Now I know that is not a very giving attitude, but hemming and mending is just one thing I LOATH to do. Now with that being said, I will ALWAYS have time to show someone how to sew. It is my passion, and what I love to do most!!! So that is what today's Project Made is all about. Giving your time, and the gift of sewing to a friend. One of my close friends Atlantis is amazing, super talented, a blast to hang out with, but definitely not a sewist. She always does so much for me, that when she showed me an outdoor lounge that she wanted to recover, I was more than happy to spend the day showing her how to make her own slip covers. I think they turned out pretty amazing, and she learned so much about sewing in that one day together. We drank wine, ate a late lunch and spent the whole day doing something fun together.
We unpicked the entire cover, cut out our own pieces from the templates in outdoor fabric from Joann's, and even inserted a zipper in the back. This is definitely a "From Drab to FABULOUS" sort of makeover.
Do you hate mending and hemming as much as I do... Can I get an AMEN!!! I've always thought "teaching someone to fish" is the best gift you can give to someone. I really hope you enjoyed today's post and that it inspires you to share your time and talent with a non-sewer in need. Let us know, or show us, a project that you have worked on with someone recently.
